Wooden Doll is a replica of the Ancient Egyptian Paddle Doll.
I created this modern version of a Wooden Paddle Doll, to be a beautiful cultural art piece for the home. The dress is made in African print fabric, embellished with decorative trims and accented with uniquely designed jewelry, matching headpiece and artfully created hairstyle. The doll comes with a wood base to stand and display.
History of Doll: Paddle Dolls were found in burial tombs in the Egyptian Predynastic period, particularly in the Middle Kingdom (2040-1750 B.C.). They were made to signify a woman's body and were highly stylized with long flowing hair, jewelry and dresses with painted fertility motifs that guaranteed eternal rebirth. These dolls are considered to be the first documented toys.
Paddle Dolls are evidence of Cultural Celebration and Pride in Female Power.
Would be great as a housewarming gift, collectors’ must-have, place inside gift basket, or add her as a decorative focal point to an Afrocentric styled room.
